The North Eastern Railway was created in 1854 and inherited
Hull station from the York & North Midland Railway, renaming it Hull Paragon. The NER rebuilt and expanded the station, reopening it in 1904. It was to be the last of Britain’s great barrel-vaulted glass-and-iron railway stations. LMS ‘Black Five’ 4-6-0 No. 45305 departs on December 27, 1981. BRIAN SHARPE
